The Pearl Street area in downtown Boulder is vibrant, charming and beautiful. Considered by many the heart and soul of Boulder, you will find world class restaurants, shops & boutiques, art galleries, churches, residences, and an energetic business district in the area. Downtown Boulder began on Pearl Street in the 1880's with banks, churches, general stores and saloons. In the late 1970's the Pearl Street Mall was created by closing off four blocks and dedicating it to a pedestrian friendly atmosphere with beautiful gardens, trees and many fine establishments. Today, 85% of the businesses in the area are locally owned. Close by you will find hiking trails, Boulder Public Library, the Boulder Creek Bike Path, and the University of Colorado.
